These disease resistant, high health apple varieties really give meaning to the phrase "An apple a day keeps the Doctor away".Many Heritage apples show high levels of flavonoids and anthocyanins (anti-oxidants) essential for good health. Recent research has indicated that these components may be beneficial in the fight against cancer. The market driven desire for fruit that looks good and has a long shelf life has meant that we have often compromised on flavour and vigour. Heritage Apple varieties have survived through-out the centuries because they show excellent disease resistance, making them ideal for the organic home orchardist. Many are called 'russet' apples which refers rough texture of the skin. Superior in flavour, good for cooking and fresh eating and with excellent storing ability Heritage Apples are a gift from yesteryear aiding in our good health today.Check our web-site for some of these recommended old favourites,'Ballarat' and good old 'Granny Smith' from our Aussie neighbours, 'Egremont Russet' and 'Peasgood's Nonsuch' from the UK and 'Hetlina' and 'Gravenstein' from Europe. Apple Belle De Boskoop MM106

Heritage Apple with Dutch origins dating back to around 1850. Large,russeted, yellow fruit blushed red. Very popular for cooking as it has a great tangy flavour but can also be eaten fresh. Considered one of the best apples for making sauce. Ripens towards the end of autumn. Deciduous.

This heritage apple hails from France and dates back to 1771. It ripens very late in the season and stores exceptionally well. A heritage apple which is quintessentially English as it has been the first choice cooking apple in the UK since the 1800's.
